Privacy policy

This page explains what information InchToCM (inchtocm.co.uk) collects when you use the site, why we collect it, and what you can do about it.

Who we are

InchToCM is a free online tool for converting inches to centimetres and related units. In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean the operator of inchtocm.co.uk. You can contact us at hello@inchtocm.co.uk.

Using the converter

Your browser does every conversion with JavaScript. The numbers you type into the converter never reach our server, and we don't store them. They disappear when you close or reload the page. None of the tools on this site need an account.

Information you send us

If you use the contact form, we receive your name, your email address and your message. We use them only to reply to you and to fix any error you report.

  • We do not add your email address to a mailing list.
  • We do not sell, rent or share your details for marketing.
  • We keep messages in our email account for as long as we need them for support and to track corrections. You can ask us to delete yours at any time.

Server logs

Our hosting provider keeps standard access logs, as most websites do. These logs may record:

  • your IP address
  • your browser type and version
  • the pages you requested
  • the date and time of each request

We use logs to keep the site running, investigate errors and detect abuse. The host keeps them for a limited period under its own retention policy.

Cookies

When you submit the contact form, we set a temporary session cookie. It protects the form against cross-site request forgery and expires when you close your browser. We do not use our own cookies to build a profile of you or to track you from site to site.

The third parties listed below may set their own cookies or use similar technologies such as web beacons and local storage. Those companies control them, and we don't.

Analytics

We may use a web analytics service to see which pages people use and where the site is slow or broken. We look at analytics data in aggregate form and use it only to improve the site. If analytics is active, the provider may set cookies or process your IP address as its own privacy policy describes.

Advertising and Google AdSense

Advertising keeps this site free. Ads appear in clearly marked areas and stay separate from the converter and the article text.

We may use Google AdSense to serve these ads. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this site. Google's advertising cookies, including the DoubleClick cookie, let Google and its partners serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet. Google may also use identifiers to measure whether you saw an ad or clicked it.

You can control this in two ways:

If you turn off personalisation, you will still see ads. They will just be less tailored to you.

Where the law requires it, including for visitors in the UK and the European Economic Area, we ask for your consent before personalised advertising cookies are used. You can change your choice at any time through the consent control on the page.

To learn more, read how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Legal basis for processing

If you are in the UK or the EEA, we process personal information on these grounds under the UK GDPR and EU GDPR:

  • Legitimate interests: replying to your messages, keeping server logs for security, and running basic analytics.
  • Consent: personalised advertising cookies and any non-essential cookies, where consent is required.

Your choices and rights

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings or use an ad or tracker blocker. You can also restrict JavaScript, but the converter needs JavaScript to calculate.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you
  • Ask us to correct it
  • Ask us to delete it
  • object to or restrict how we use it
  • Withdraw your consent at any time

Usually the only personal information we hold is a contact form message, so these requests are simple to handle. Email us and we will reply within one month.

If you are in the UK and you are unhappy with how we handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Data security

The site runs over HTTPS, which encrypts the data sent between your browser and our server. We limit who can access contact form messages. No website can promise complete security, but we take reasonable steps to protect the small amount of information we hold.

Children

This site is a general reference tool. It is not aimed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you think a child has sent us personal information through the contact form, tell us and we will delete it.

Links to other sites

Some pages link to external websites. We don't control those sites, and this policy doesn't cover them. Check their own privacy policies.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will post the new version on this page and update the date at the top.
